What is Rain Drop Aromatherapy Massage?

April 9th, 2012 • Posted by Amy Gray • Permalink

This technique involves the amazing power of essential oils with a variety of massage techniques and heat application to achieve structural and electrical alignment within the body.  The use of these specific essential oils help to eliminate toxins and viruses that may lie dormant within the spine.

How is this Massage performed?

During the Raindrop technique, the guest lies face down on a massage table.  The essential oils are dropped onto the guest's body from about 6 inches above the spine.  This technique is used so that the massage therapist's energy does not interfere between the initial interaction of the oil and the guest.  The process uses several oils including:
Oregano, thyme, Birch, Basil, Peppermint, Valor and Marjoram.  once the oils have been applied, the therapist will then use a vita flex massage technique that involves a rolling and releasing motion on the reflex points in the body.  once this happens the reflex points release an electrical charge through the body that travels along the nerve pathway  until it meets a break in the path caused by toxins or damage.  Afterwards a hot compress is applied to further assist in the effects of the essential oils.  While the heat compress is on the back, the massage therapist will use the vita flex massage technique on the legs.

Lasting Benefits:

The essential oils will continue to work in the body for around a week.  the raindrop technique has many benefits since it is a detoxifying process.  It will help rid the body of toxins and bacteria that are deep within the body while providing an immune system boost.  this treatment reduces stress, realigns the spine and relieves back pain.  People with sensitive skin should be aware that this treatment will cause reddening of the skin and excessive warming, but the treatment is well worth it.

New Article Explaining the Science of Massage

February 3rd, 2012 • Posted by Amy Gray • Permalink

Having a massage after strenuous exercise not only feels good, it reduces inflammation in muscles at the cellular level, researchers have found.

Massage also appears to promote the growth of new mitochondria in skeletal muscle. Mitochondria are cells' energy-producing "powerhouses," explained the researchers at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging and McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

For the study, the investigators conducted genetic analyses of muscle biopsies from the quadriceps of 11 men after they exercised to exhaustion on stationary bicycles. After the workout, one of each participant's legs was massaged. Biopsies from both legs were taken before exercise, immediately after 10 minutes of massage, and 2.5 hours after the end of the workout.

The researchers found that massage reduced the activity of inflammation-inducing proteins called cytokines in muscle cells and promoted the growth of new mitochondria, according to the study published in the Feb. 1 online edition of the journal Science Translational Medicine.

Many people find that having a massage after exercise reduces muscle pain. This pain reduction may involve the same mechanisms as those targeted by common anti-inflammatory drugs, explained Simon Melov, a Buck Institute faculty member.

"There's general agreement that massage feels good; now we have a scientific basis for the experience," Melov said in an institute news release.

The findings provide validation for massage, which is growing in popularity, said lead author Dr. Mark Tarnopolsky, of the pediatrics and medicine department at McMaster.

"The potential benefits of massage could be useful to a broad spectrum of individuals including the elderly, those suffering from musculoskeletal injuries, and patients with chronic inflammatory disease," Tarnopolsky said. "This study provides evidence that manipulative therapies, such as massage, may be justifiable in medical practice."

Medical Massage

January 18th, 2012 • Posted by Amy Gray • Permalink

Blu Water Medi Spa is proud to offer medical massage and bodywork service for auto accident and chronic pain sufferers.  Each year more than 3 million rear-end auto accidents are reported.  Two years later, more than 50% of the victims still suffer from pain due to the accident.  Traditional treatments of immobilization and medication are often ineffective.  Recent research shows that an active approach to recovery including stretching, strengthening and joint mobilization is more effective.  Our expert staff of therapists utilize therapeutic massage, craniosacral therapy, chiropractic adjustments, hydrotherapy and more to tailor a treatment plan ideal for your specific needs.

Since delaying treatment can cause chronic pain long after an injury occurs, it's important to start a program of treatment as soon as possible.  If you've had an accident in the past and feel that you're still experiencing the effects, we can help!  Many auto insurance policies include benefits for medical care after an accident.  Call us today to discuss your options and let us help you get on the road to recovery!

What is Chakra Balancing?

January 9th, 2012 • Posted by Amy Gray • Permalink

Balancing your chakras improves your health and well being, physically, mentally and emotionally.  Anyone can learn how to do this and experience a long-lasting feeling of well-being every day of their lives.

Chakras are wheels of light located all over our body.  We have thousands of them in our body but the seven major ones are located along our spine from its base to the crown of the head. Each chakra is represented by a color of the rainbow -  red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.

  • Crown Chakra - Top of Head - Violet
  • Third Eye/Brow Chakra  - Above & between eyebrows  - Indigo
  • Throat Chakra - Base of throat - Blue
  • Heart Chakra - Center of chest - Green
  • Solar Plexus Chakra - Just above navel - Yellow
  • Sacral Chakra - Just below navel - Orange
  • Root/Base Chakra - Base of spine - Red

Chakras are like the power stations of our body, bringing it to life, and keeping it healthy. Each chakra is associated with different parts of us and they need to spin totally in balance for us to feel good.

The chakras absorb energy that comes from our thoughts, feelings and outside environment and feed this to our body.    Our body is affected by the quality of the energy that passes through the chakras.  For instance, if we have negative feelings, we will be filtering negative energy through our chakras and into our body  Over time this can make our body ill. Our chakras also absorb energy from the environment.  Other people's negative emotions or a room full of clutter will produce an unhealthy energy which we absorb.

We cannot avoid coming into contact with negative energy or feeling down sometimes, but there is a lot that we can do to change our feelings from negative to positive and to protect ourselves from harmful energy in the environment.  Keeping our chakras in tip-top condition is the key, in other words keeping them spinning in balance.  Chakra balancing is a bit like spring-cleaning the chakras and fine-tuning them.

Spending a few minutes balancing your chakras before you get out of bed in the morning is a wonderful way to start the day, making you feel full of life, positivity and hope. Balancing your chakras before you go to sleep at night will calm you down, ease your mind and promote a wonderful night's sleep. If you want to do it during the day, then you must find a quiet space and time for yourself.

Each chakra is associated with different body parts, emotions and life areas, so in balancing each chakra, you will be giving energy and help to any issues or problems you have. There are too many areas to discuss in one article, but very general associations are shown below:

  • Root Chakra - Survival, Security, Energy, Trust, Power to achieve
Part of body - Skeleton, Legs, Bones, Spine, Large intestine

  • Sacral Chakra - Feelings, Self-awareness, Self-love, Creativity
Part of body - Kidneys, Bladder, Sexual organs, Reproductive system

  • Solar Plexus Chakra - Personality, Self-respect, Self-confidence
Part of body - Digestive system, Small intestine, Skin, Nervous system

  • Heart Chakra - Love, Compassion, Sharing, Forgiveness
Part of body - Heart, Chest, Lungs, Arms, Hands, Circulation

  • Throat Chakra - Creative self-expression, Communication, Inspiration
Part of body - Throat, Neck, Nose, Mouth, Teeth

  • Third Eye Chakra - Intuition, Understanding, Insight, Realization
Part of body - Eyes, Ears, Base of skull, Nervous system

  • Crown Chakra - knowing, wholeness, perfection, enlightenment, unity
Part of body - Upper skull, Skin

There are different methods of balancing the chakras.  Some people use colored crystals, as the energy vibrations of colors aids balancing.  Essential oils can be used for their healing vibrations.  Visualization is powerful, as thought is energy.   Affirmations made while chakra balancing create positive feelings.  Whichever methods are used or combined, chakra balancing offers very positive results - improving your health and making you feel good about yourself.
